I appreciated reading classmate Jim Zaring's comments about having Mike as a football teammate. I most likely crossed paths with Mike in the hallways of BTHS but I never talked with him - something that I have come to regret. About ten yrs. ago I was paging through the 1963 Bellevinois and noticed Mike was the only Black. I never had the opportunity to personally work with Blacks until I started Basic Combat Training with the U. S. Army in Oct 1967. If I would have contacted Mike I would have apologized for not having spoken to him. I hope that Mike was well accepted in the classroom.

Mike was a member of our undefeated football team and supported our team without
reservation. Mike's primary job was to go down and cover kick offs and after watching game
films, I felt sorry for our opponent receiving the kick off. You see Mike was a very aggresive
player and caused several fumbles giving us good field position.
Mike would do whatever the coaches asked of him without discussion. Unlike many of his
team mates Mike did not have an ego problem.
Mike played the game to win and win we did. I'll miss him and I hope he didn't suffer.
