I didn't know Carl well but I did have a few classes with him. In the late 60's, 70's and 80's many of the young ladies in our class knew his dad, Dr. Burpo, intimately. May he Rest In Peace.
Carl and I were best friends and shared many activities and good times. Carl and I were on bowling teams together and played lots of pool. Carl was a great photographer and we worked in his dark room together developing photos for the Belleville Junior College paper and the Dutchman. We were both active in an Explorer post and went on many canoe trips in the Ozarks and Canada. Carl and I often visited Frank Hackmann to play basketball. Carl and I took a 6 week trip through the West in his VW beetle, camping most of the way. Carl, Frank Hackmann and David Buckley came to visit me in Las Vegas shortly before Carl died. It was a bittersweet experience as we all knew his days were numbered but we had a good time remembering our days at BTHS.
I was not close to Carl Burpo, however, I had been very ill my senior year and could not keep up, since cronic pain took my mind from my studies. By the time I was 25 the pain (internal) was so bad and had no doctor telling me what was wrong I thought I was mental! lol
Carl's father, after reaching out to him, gave me medication and allowed me to know I had a death threatenig illness.
Two years later I went through two more doctors while living in Northern Indiana and finally found Dr. Hagnaw and teamed up with an internest and actually saw the xrays showing the "chrones". I live even today with the illness and it is very high stress, but I thank the LORD for the days He continues to bless me with.
TO THE FAMILY OF DR. BURPO OF PAST AND THIS PRECIOUS SON, PLEASE KNOW I CONTINUE TO KNOW HOW BLESSED I AM DUE TO PERSONS LIKE YOU.
