Roger & I were good friends during our Sophomore year when he was Class Vice-President and I was Class President. Also pictured above is is Betty Dehn (Treasurer) & Marsha Best (Secretary). Roger was very smitten with a beautiful young classmate, Jane Bishop. Almost every weekend, we would go visit Jane at her parent's home off 82nd street. Roger was too shy to go by himself so he took me along for courage. I guess I was his "wingman"! After Roger started dating Jane, he dumped me for her which I didn't mind because they were meant to be together. As you know, they eventually got married. Jane and Roger will always be some of my fondest high school memories.

What a cutie!  In junior high school I had a huge crush on Roger.  I gave him half of my heart necklace (Johnny Johnson still reminds me of that).  A few months later he gave it back and gave Sherry Pierce a dime store ring.  What heartbreak.  He went on to meet and marry the love of his life, Jane Bishop.  They didn't have enough time together.  He, too, is missed.

I knew Roger in and out of school.  For a long time when I was younger, I thought I was related to Roger because me and my dad and sister spent a lot of time at their house.  But then I realized it was just that my parents were best friends with his parents, his parents stood up for my parents when they got married!  Small world, huh!  Roger was a darling of a man and I have fond memories of him.

I certainly knew Roger.  We attended Douglas Grade School together.  We all were, and actually still are, a very close group of friends.  We knew each others's siblings, as many of us had older or younger brothers and sisters also in the same grade.  We hung out together at the Green Tea Pot, (adjoining my father's furniture store) after school, for penny candies, ice cream etc.  Then we all attended Jr. High together, and high school.  So we all go a long way back.  I was devistated when Roger became ill and died.  A  part of our "Douglas" group gone.  I will always remember him very fondly.

I do remember Roger and Jane and thought they were so cute together.  It turns out his mother  was a friend of my mother after I left Belleville and I would hear about them through her. My mother thought a lot of him.  I spoke to Jane when she came to my door campaigning later. Sure was sorry to hear of his death. Seemed way too soon.
