James Zieger

Jim and I were teammates on various school and summer league baseball and basketball teams from the fifth grade through high school.  One summer Jim distinguished himself by completing a very rare unassisted triple play.  Jim had a record-breaking career as a pole-vaulter on the BTHS track team.  In addition to sports, we were classmates at Emge grade school, BTHS, Belleville Area College and the University of Missouri at Rolla where Jim earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering and was close to a Ph.D. when he accepted a job with Proctor & Gamble in Cincinnati.  After a couple of years he moved to St. Louis where he worked at Monsanto until his retirement.  At Monsanto Jim was part of the Roundup development/manufacturing team.  He spent two years in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia as the engineer in charge of building one of Monsanto’s Roundup plants.  Jim retired early when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.  Some of Jim’s last memories were of events at BTHS.
