Carol Crawford (Studtmann)

Carol J. Studtmann, nee Crawford, 72, of Belleville, Illinois, born Sunday, November 4, 1945, in Red Bud, IL, passed peacefully into heaven on Monday, April 23, 2018 at St. Anthony's de Greeff Hospice House in St. Louis, Missouri.

In 1965, Carol married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Ronald Studtmann. They spent the first two years together in Tempe, Arizona before moving back to Belleville, Illinois where they spent 40 more years of married life. All who knew them admired their commitment and love for each other.

In addition to raising their two children, Carol worked as a recreational therapist for Memorial Hospital for many years. She was also an active member for 45 years of the Junior Wednesday Club where she made dear, lifelong friends.

Carol had a beautiful and strong faith and enjoyed being a member of the Christian family at St. Martin of Tours Lutheran Church. Additionally, she shared her faith by serving as a facilitator for ten years for the Starting Over Grief Support Group at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows where she again made dear friends and helped so many people learn to live in peace after losing a spouse.

Family, friends, and Halloween were Carol's passions. Board games at the kitchen table with those she loved brought her much laughter and fun. And once she turned the calendar to October each year, her Halloween jewelry, orange and black clothing, hats, witch shoes, lawn decorations, and costumes made their appearances. The Queen of Halloween, indeed.

Her grandchildren, Grace and Luke, gave her immense joy. She will forever be their beloved "MeMe."

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald M. Studtmann; parents, Vernon and Lydell, nee Rabe, Crawford; and sister, Judy Gerleman.

Surviving are her children, Matthew Studtmann of Belleville, IL, and Heidi (Eric) Klein of Columbia, IL; grandchildren, Grace Klein and Luke Klein; sister, Joann (Tim) Spivey of Belleville, IL; brothers-in-law, David Studtmann of Roswell, GA, and Mark (Mary) Studtmann of Belleville, IL; sister-in-law, Susan Henning of Roswell, GA; dear nieces and nephews; and dear friends.

Memorials may be made to St. Martin of Tours Lutheran Church of Mascoutah, Illinois and St. Anthony's Charitable Foundation for de Greef Hospice House. Condolences may be expressed online at www.kurrusfh.com.
